The King Rocks The Ed Sullivan Show!

September 9, 1956 – Elvis Presley appears on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time.

The stamp pictured here was recently issued by the U.S. Postal Service on August 12, 2015.  One of the cool things about this stamp issue is that the mini-sheets on which they are printed are the size of a 45rpm record sleeve.  The back of the sheet looks just like what you would expect to see on a modern-day 45rpm cover – a photo of the King onstage, in a suit and tie with his signature hairdo, holding an acoustic guitar and singing into one of those awesome, old technology concert microphones.
