Hank Greenberg: Jewish-American Baseball Star

September 18, 1938: Hank Greenberg of the Detroit Tigers hit his 52nd and 53rd home runs of the season putting him ahead of Ruth’s 1927 record setting season. Greenberg still need 7 to tie and 8 to break the Bambino’s record.

Greenberg was a hero for Jewish Americans as he was one of the few Jewish athletes who played and excelled in America’s favorite sport.

The stamp here was issued in 2006 by the U.S. Postal Service as part of set honoring other baseball champions Roy Campanella, Micky Mantle and Mel Ott.
