Salonika, Carasso & Dannon Yogurt

December 16, 1905: In Salonika which was then a part of the Ottoman Empire, Isaac Carasso and his wife gave birth to Daniel Carasso who founded what would eventually become Dannon Yogurt.

Pictured today is a stamp from the Italian Offices Abroad in Salonika with an overprint.  The stamp was one of eight stamps issued between 1909 and 1911.  Salonika, or Thessaloniki is in central Macedonia.
